Man Shot after Altercation NR09271ah
Los Angeles: A man was shot outside of a home yesterday evening in South Los Angeles.
The male victim, 37, whose name is being withheld until family notifications are made, was standing on the front porch of a home located in the 800 block of West 43rd Street, when four men approached him at around 9:50 p.m. One of the men asked the victim if he had been involved in an altercation at a nearby market. When the victim admitted involvement, a gunman from the group shot him in the chest and fled.
The victim was rushed to an area hospital where he died a short time later.
Prior to the shooting, the victim along with a friend were at a market in the 4200 block of South Hoover Street. The victim’s friend asked a man, later identified as Jimmy Hernandez, 21, for five dollars. After Hernandez told the man he did not have any money, he walked outside and was attacked with a stick by the 37-year-old male who would later be murdered.
Hernandez, accompanied by three gang members, located the victim and shot him.
Detectives developed leads and conducted a follow up at Hernandez’s residence where he was taken into custody. After being interviewed, Hernandez was charged with murder and is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
The three suspects at large were described only as Latino.
