Man Attacked Killed with Hammer R09336ah

Los Angeles: Los Angeles police arrested a suspect who allegedly attacked and killed 28-year-old Lindval Baptist with a hammer in South Los Angeles on July 11, 2009.

Detectives quickly developed leads and learned that the suspect, 54-year-old Brian Wright, was last seen at his girlfrield’s home in the 1900 block of West 22nd Street, in Los Angeles.  A follow up was  conducted at the home and Wright was taken into custody without incident.

In the early morning hours on July 11, 2009, a relative of Baptist discovered him lying face down on the floor in a pool of blood at a home in the 3100 block of 6th Avenue, and called 911.  Paramedics responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Investigators believe that the suspect used a hammer to bludgeon and murder Baptist but did not provide a motive.

Wright was booked for murder and is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Any one with information regarding this murder is asked to call Southwest Homicide Detectives at 213- 485-1383.  After hours or on weekends, calls may be directed to a 24-hour, toll-free number at 1-877-LAPD-24-7 or by texting CRIMES (274637) and beginning the message with the letters LAPD.  Tipsters may also submit information on the LAPD website: www.lapdonline.org.  All tips may remain anonymous.
