Suspect Shoots at Gas Station Customers NR11119ds

Updated with Officers names 3-22-11

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect responsible for shooting at a crowd of people at a gas station.

On the evening of March 15, 2011, at around 8 p.m., Southwest Area plain clothes officers were working in the area of Crenshaw and Adams Boulevards. The officers became aware of a disturbance between a few individuals at the 76 gas station parking lot. When they drove over to the station to investigate, they heard shots fired and their attention was turned to two male Black suspects, one of whom had a gun.  The armed suspect then shot at a group of customers. The officers got out of their car and shot at the suspect, who dropped his gun and ran away.  The suspect’s loaded pistol was recovered at the site and after a search of the area by police officers and a K-9 unit, the unarmed suspect was taken into custody. No one at the scene was hurt, and police are still searching for the man with the gun.

LAPD’s Force Investigation Division personnel responded and are investigating the officer- involved shooting.  LAPD Southwest Division detectives are investigating the firearm assault and the involvement of the captured suspect.

Officers involved in this incident are Police Officer II John Flores, 13 years 8 months and Police Officer II Paul Fedynich, 7 years 8 months with the Department.

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call LAPD’s Southwest Area detectives at 213-485-2582.  During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7.  Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477).  Tipsters may also contact Crimestoppers by texting to phone number 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S on most keypads) with a cell phone.  All text messages should begin with the letters “LAPD.” Tipsters may also go to LAPDOnline.org, click on "webtips" and follow the prompts.
