West Los Angeles Homicide Detectives are investigating a murder that occurred on April 21, 2007, at about 11:30 PM, at a 7-11 store located in the 1400 block of Westwood Boulevard..  The victim, Carvell Baker, 35, a local transient, was standing next to a payphone when he was shot in the head by a gunman.  As a result of his injuries, Baker died at the scene.

Detectives handling the investigation were able to recover video surveillance tape from the 7-11 Corporation.  A review of the tape identified the gunman and also showed that he had entered the 7-11 store prior to the shooting.

This was an unusually senseless and violent crime as the suspect shot the victim without provocation.  The gunman is described as a Hispanic man in his mid 30s, about 5' 8" to 5' 9", 180 to 200 lbs.  He is bald and has mustache.

The City of Los Angeles is offering a $50,000 dollar reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the gunman responsible for the murder of Carvell Baker.

Still photographs and videotapes will be provided at the press conference.

Anyone with information regarding this crime or who recognizes the suspect is asked to contact West Los Angeles Homicide Detectives at 310-444-1520.  On weekends or off-hours, contact the 24-hour toll free number at 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3588).
