Los Angeles: On Monday, March 14, 2005, the Los Angeles Police Department will honor 209 active and retired police officers, reserve officers and civilian employees during the 25th Annual Recognition Day Awards Ceremony.
Strict and demanding criteria governs these medals and commendations. Selected candidates must have distinguished themselves by acts of bravery, heroism, service, or by significant achievements above and beyond normal demands of duty.
6 Police Medals (second only to the Medal of Valor) will be awarded this year, along with 30 Police Stars. 13 Lifesaving Medals, 3 Police Distinguished Service Medals, 7 Police Meritorious Service Medals, 1 Human Relations Medal and the Police Meritorious Unit Citation will be presented to more than 100 deserving recipients. The Los Angeles Police Commission will also bestow the prestigious Police Commission Distinguished Service Medal to one individual during this formal awards ceremony.
Guests in attendance will hear the compelling and inspirational stories that lead to the esteemed honors and Assistant Chief Jim McDonnell, Assistant Chief Sharon Papa, Deputy Chief Gary Brennan and Deputy Chief Michel Moore will participate and present the awards to the 2005 honorees.
