PRESS RELEASE
Tuesday, October 12, 1999
On Saturday, October 9, 1999, at approximately 8:30 p.m., a felony hit and run traffic collision occurred in the 2400 block of Eastern Avenue. A four-year old boy from Baldwin Park was attending a birthday party on Eastern Avenue with his father when he observed his mother drive up across the street from the location. The boy darted out into the street as he attempted to greet his mother at which time he was struck by a dark vehicle, possibly a Honda, that was traveling northbound on Eastern Avenue. The impact from that collision propelled the boy into the southbound lanes of traffic where he was hit by another vehicle that was traveling southbound on Eastern Avenue.

According to witnesses, the second vehicle was described as a mid-sized station wagon, maroon in color, with 2 lawnmowers protruding from the rear hatch or rear window. The driver of that vehicle was described as a female Hispanic approximately 5’4" tall, 150 pounds, and 30 years of age.

The boy was transported by rescue ambulance to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

If there is any information from the public regarding the identity or whereabouts of the suspects or the vehicles involved in this tragic collision, please contact Detective Tia Morris or Investigator Robert Cortez, Central Traffic Division at 213-485-3111.
