63-year-old Killed by His Son in Reseda

August 6, 2001

Reseda: On August 5, 2001, at 11:07 p.m., West Valley patrol officers responded to a shots fired call at the 18900 block of Valerio Street in Reseda. Upon arriving at the location, the officers were met by Rosemary Marky, the resident of the single family dwelling, who had run out to the street to meet them. She advised them that her husband had been shot in the back yard. The officers went to the rear of the home and discovered the lifeless body of a male, later identified as 63-year-old William Bernard Marky. The victim had sustained an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
The officers heard screaming from the house to the west of the Marky residence. Officers went next door and were met by the resident, who advised the officers that his roommate, 32-year-old Matthew Marky, had just come running from the backyard of his father’s house next door, carrying a gun. Matthew Marky ordered the man into the house and pointed a gun at him. The man was able to lock himself in a room until police arrived, at which time he ran from the house, leaving Marky behind. The officers surrounded the house and began evacuating the neighborhood as Marky had barricaded himself within the house.
At 1:15 a.m., Matthew Marky walked out of the front door of the house and was taken into custody.
Marky has been booked for the murder of his father and is being held at West Valley Jail on $1,000,000.00 bail. The motive for the killing is unknown at this time.
