9-Year-Old With Cancer Becomes Cop For A Day

"Nine Year Old with Cancer Becomes a Cop for a Day"

Los Angeles – Last year, nine-year-old Timothy was a happy, energetic boy who enjoyed playing with his friends. He was known as an all-star soccer player. Unfortunately, Timothy experienced dizzy spells during a soccer practice. Sideline cheering was abruptly replaced with bedside prayers when Timothy was, soon thereafter, diagnosed with brain cancer.
Timothy is recovering from brain surgery and currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
On Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at 6:45 a.m., Timothy’s desire to become a police officer will become a reality as he becomes one of the LAPD’s finest. He will be sworn in at the Pacific Division’s day watch roll call at Pacific Community Police Station, 12312 Culver Boulevard, Los Angeles. While donned in a police uniform, Timothy will be given an LAPD badge to wear for a day. Following the 45-minute roll call, Timothy will team up with an LAPD officer and visit a nearby donut shop, where he will indulge in hot chocolate and donuts. Timothy and his partner will then continue on to the LAPD’s Air Support Division, where he will be treated to a helicopter flight.

Members of the media are invited to attend this event in its entirety. There will be ample photo and interview opportunities at all locations.

The Precious Time Foundation is the brainchild of LAPD Reserve Officer Steve Bertolino. Reserve Officer Bertolino has been a member of the LAPD for 17 years and he himself has gone through two "bouts" with cancer. His mission is to help kids.
