Animal Cruelty Dog Shootings

Los Angeles: Newton Area detectives are currently investigating two separate animal cruelty cases involving dog shootings within the past two weeks.

On March 29, 2024, around 11:00 p.m., Newton Area patrol officers responded to a shooting call in the area of 23rd Street and Santa Fe Avenue. Officers located a dog that had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and located evidence of a shooting. The officers transported the animal to a local veterinarian for treatment and the animal survived.

On April 7, 2024, around 3:30 a.m., Newton Area patrol officers responded to a shooting call in the area of 52nd Street and Avalon Boulevard. Officers located another dog that had suffered a gunshot wound and located evidence of a shooting. The animal succumbed to its injuries.

There is no suspect information.
