On June 1, 1999 at 3:40 p.m., Actress Kathy Bates became the victim of a theft from her car. After withdrawing funds from a local bank near Sunset Boulevard and Vine Street. Bates noticed a flat tire on her 1998 Jaguar Convertible. Ms. Bates stopped her car at Citrus Avenue and 6th Street, and called for Road Service. She waited in her car with the doors locked and windows rolled up. A male Hispanic, 24-25 years of age with black hair, brown eyes, a muscular build and wearing a white shirt and green shorts approached Bates’ car and offered assistance. Ms. Bates advised the suspect that tow service had already been requested.

Upon arrival of tow service Ms. Bates got out of her car leaving her purse inside. Ms. Bates’ purse and contents including cash, credit cards and identification were taken during the time the tire was being changed. Ms. Bates suspects the individual described took her purse as he was last seen around her car.

Anyone with information about this incident should contact Detective Woodings, Los Angeles Police Department Burglary Auto-Theft Division, at 213-485-2524.
