Murder Suspect Arrested

Operations-Valley Bureau Homicide detectives conducted an investigation, which led to the identification of 19-year-old Angel Garcia from Tarzana as the shooter. Further investigation revealed that Garcia likely fled to Mexico after the shooting. A warrant was obtained for the arrest of Garcia.

On September 5, 2023, members of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Gang and Narcotic Division/FBI Fugitive Task Force located Angel Garcia in Mexico. On September 6, 2023, with the assistance of Mexican Authorities, Angel Garcia was transported to Los Angeles, California, where he was taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department. Garcia was booked for Murder and Attempt Murder, at Valley Jail Section in Van Nuys, and is being held on $2,000,000.00 bail (Booking #6673260).

This case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration and charges were filed for California Penal Code Section 187(a) PC – Murder, and 664/187(a) PC – Attempt Murder.

Reseda: Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Valley Area are asking for the public’s help in identifying the person responsible for the murder of 28-year-old Brandyn Rodrigo Mendez of Van Nuys.

On August 4, 2023, around 7:25 p.m., LAPD West Valley Area patrol officers responded to a radio call of a shooting at Reseda Boulevard and Oxnard Street. When the officers arrived, they discovered two victims in the parking lot, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Los Angeles Fired Department paramedics responded and transported both victims to the hospital. While at the hospital, one of the two victims succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The second victim is listed in stable condition.

The two victims had arrived at the Orange Line bus station and were involved in a confrontation with the suspect. During the confrontation, the suspect produced a handgun and fired multiple times at the victims. The suspect then fled the scene.

No arrests have been made. Valley Bureau Homicide Detectives are investigating.
