Arrest Made in Chatsworth Bar Shooting NR21181wc

Chatsworth: The Los Angeles Police Department’s Devonshire detectives have made an arrest in connection with the shooting at a bar located in Chatsworth.

On May 16, 2021 around 12:30 a.m., a shooting occurred in the parking lot of a strip mall near the 20900 block of Lassen Street. The suspect was involved in a physical altercation with security guards and another individual. The suspect then retrieved a handgun and fired numerous times in the direction of an operating business, resulting in three persons being struck by gunfire. The suspect fled to a waiting vehicle driven by a second suspect and both fled the scene in the vehicle.

Devonshire Area detectives identified Richard Arturo Gandara III, 38-years-old, of San Fernando as a suspect in the shooting and attempted murder of the three victims. The second suspect remains at-large.

On July 8, 2021, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Gandara charging him with three counts of 187(a)PC- Attempt Murder, one count of Negligent Discharge of a Firearm into an Inhabited Building, three counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with a Semi-Automatic Firearm, one count of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person and one count of Possession of Ammunition by a Prohibited Person.
On July 12, 2021, Devonshire Area detectives and investigators from LAPD’s Gang and Narcotics Division arrested Gandara in San Fernando, California.
