Arrest Made in Distracted Driving Fatal Collision NR19015ti

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Traffic Division detectives arrested Rosario Valdezinda, a 38-year-old, resident of Los Angeles, for Vehicular Manslaughter.

On January 23, 2019, around 8 p.m., a fatal vehicle versus pedestrian collision occurred near the area of 6th Street and Grand View. Valdezinda was driving eastbound on 6th Street approaching Grand View Street in the number two lane when she struck the pedestrian, who was running across the street while in the marked cross walk. It was determined that Valdezinda was looking at her messages on her cell phone when the collision occurred. She remained at scene and attempted to render aid as required by law.

Valdezinda was initially arrested for a misdemeanor offense of driving without a valid driver’s license, 12500(a) VC. After careful consideration of the facts and evidence on this case, she was arrested and booked for 192(c)(1) Penal Code, Vehicular Manslaughter. Detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The victim is a male Korean, 65-years old, a resident of Los Angeles.
