Los Angeles: On Saturday, April 14, 2001, at approximately 3:30 P.M., the victim, a thirty year old female Hispanic, her two-year-old son, and the victim’s ex-lover, Jorge Alberto Lopez, were seated in a black Nissan Pathfinder in the area of the 600 block of South Norton Avenue, Los Angeles.
Lopez, who was the driver, stopped and parked the vehicle. He stepped away from the vehicle, armed himself with a .22 caliber revolver and fired several shots at the victim. After wounding the victim multiple times, the suspect turned the gun on himself and committed suicide. The victim’s two-year-old son, who was seated in the back seat, was not harmed.
Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded and transported the victim to a local hospital, where she was listed in stable conditions. The suspect was pronounced dead at scene. The child was taken in protective custody and placed with the Department of Children Services.
