Barbeque for Cancer-Stricken Officer

A barbeque luncheon hosted by the Hazardous Devices and Materials Section of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Bomb Squad in support of Jacqueline “Jackie” Hickey, a highly decorated, 20-year LAPD veteran who is battling cancer.

WHY:
To pay tribute to Officer Hickey’s notable law enforcement career, accomplishments and to support her in her battle with cancer.  In honor of Officer Hickey and to mark the occasion, LAPD officers and FBI agents will shave their heads as a display of respect for Officer Hickey’s daily struggle with the disease.

As an explosives ordinance technician for the LAPD Bomb Squad, Officer Hickey has participated in over 2,500 bomb squad call-outs. In more than 900 of those occasions, she was the lead investigative technician and currently works closely with the FBI Counter Terrorism Squad.  She is also a handler for the LAPD Bomb Squad K-9 Cadre and a former United States Marine Corps sergeant.

Officer Hickey is known throughout the country and internationally as an instructor in counter terrorism analysis and assessment, risk and blast mitigation, weapons of mass destruction, explosives and munitions.  As a highly sought-after guest speaker for many corporate entities, she helps train high-level security personnel in issues of threat awareness.

Her LAPD awards include the 2007 Police Star, the 2007 Police Unit Citation and the 2005 Bomb Technician/Officer of the Year.
