Beautification of Foothill Station Brings Community Together

Foothill Division creates community driven project through landscape rehab project of police station for annual open house.

WHY:
Pacific Outdoor Living will design the new landscaping and is raising almost $45,000 in plants, products and services to overhaul Foothill Station’s landscaping to make it drought tolerant and easy to maintain.  Pacific Outdoor Living will also generously donate an additional $10,000 to Foothill cadets.  Councilman Fuentes is working with local foundations and the Department of Water & Power to secure additional funding as part of his overall vision of creating pocket parks to beautify Pacoima.  Renowned local muralist, Levi Ponce, has agreed to design and create a mural on the back wall of the station paying tribute to the various communities represented in Foothill Area.  The Theodore Payne Foundation, dedicated to promoting the use of California native plant species has agreed to provide consulting services.  Two local non-profit organizations, Pacoima Beautiful and Youth Policy Institute will be providing volunteers, mostly teenagers, who will be learning about the various species of plants and assisting with the planting.  Local businesses, including Angeles Block will be donating materials and skilled laborers to provide job training to at risk young adults. Industrial Metal Supply, a local metal supply company, will be donating the architectural signage material to match the building’s mid Century architecture in the same typeface used on the 1961 facade to adorn a new planter at the corner of Osborne and El Dorado.
