June 30, 2004

Los Angeles: An extensive array of classic, custom, foreign and racing cars will go on display on Saturday, July 10, 2004, to raise money for the Devonshire Area of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Sponsored by SOLID (Supporters of Law Enforcement in Devonshire), a non-profit group that helps the Devonshire Division of the LAPD obtain equipment the City cannot supply. The Car Show will feature Corvettes, Chevelles, Trans AMs, MOPARS, customized and foreign cars, classic autos dating back to 1976, Mustangs, T-Birds, hot-rods and trucks.
"We see this as something that will draw great interest from both the automobile community and the neighborhoods we serve," said Captain Joseph Curreri, Commanding Officer, Devonshire Area. "This is our first car show and we look forward to making it an annual event."
Admission is free. Food donated by Outback Steakhouse, will be available for purchase with proceeds going to SOLID. It will cost $25 to pre-register cars for the event or $30 on the day of the show.
Trophies will be awarded in several categories, including best of show, paint job, interior, engine, Master of Ceremonies and Commanding Officer’s awards presented. Dash Plaques and goodie bags will go to the first 250 entrants and all entrants will receive a T-shirt.
Registration begins at 8:00 a.m., judging runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and the awards ceremony starts at 2:00 p.m. It will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Granada Hills, at 10400 Zelzah Avenue in Northridge.
Since it was formed in 1995 SOLID has provided the Devonshire Area with thousands of dollars worth of equipment not available through City budgets or normal supply channels, including computers, cameras, fax machines and shredders. The organization also has helped renovate the police station’s roll-call and weight rooms.
