Car to Car Shooting Leaves One Dead

Los Angeles: Hollenbeck Homicide Detectives are investigating the shooting death of Luis Enrique Garcia, a male Hispanic, 27 years of age and the attempted murder of his three of companions.

On March 1, 2003, at 8:10 p.m., Garcia and three of his companions were driving westbound on Huntington Drive, as they turned southbound on Eastern Avenue, unknown suspects approached in a dark colored vehicle. The right front passenger of the suspect’s vehicle fired two rounds at the victim’s vehicle. Subsequently, Garcia was struck by the gunfire. Garcia’s companions transported him to USC Medical Center where he was listed in critical, but stable condition.
On March 4, 2003 at 2:35 p.m., Garcia succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
There is no additional suspect information at this time. The shooting appears to be gang-related.
