January 8, 1999

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Friday, January 8, 1999
On Wednesday, January 6, 1999, at approximately 10:50 a.m., two suspects entered the business located at 223 Alpine Street in Chinatown. One suspect went to the counter and asked for assistance while the second suspect acted as a look-out. After the store had cleared most of its customers, one suspect asked to see merchandise contained in a glass display case. When the salesperson retrieved the merchandise, one suspect simulated a handgun and demanded the property. The salesperson complied and the two suspects fled the location. The suspects were chased for several blocks and were last seen running near the intersection of Hill and Ord Street.

A surveillance videotape of the incident shows the look-out monitoring the customer traffic in the store. At the end of the tape, the first suspect can be seen running from the store carrying the stolen property with the look-out close behind.

This tape is being released to the media in hopes that someone will recognize the look-out. If you have any information, please contact the Los Angeles Police Department, Central Division Robbery Detectives at (213) 485-2671.
