Los Angeles county has over 600,000 youth at-risk for delinquency, academic failure, gang involvement, early pregnancy, and intergenerational poverty. Studies have shown that Big Brothers and Big Sisters, mentoring one for a single hour each week for a year, can change a child’s life. It reduces first-time drug use by 46 percent, lowers absenteeism by 53 percent and reduces violent behavior by 33 percent.
