Why:
To dedicate and highlight the POPP program.  POPP program is a one-of-a-kind exploratory educational experience that places career-bound, law enforcement students in an established LAPD training environment.  With a team of LAPD staff and officers, LAUSD coordinators and consultants and Los Angeles Community College deans and instructors, high school seniors and college freshman are put through a simulated LAPD recruit experience.

Their program’s mission is to prepare highly motivated students for the moral, ethical and physical standards required of law enforcement agencies.  It provides a rigorous, two-year college curriculum administered by professors that provides high school seniors and college freshman cadets 15 college units per semester.

This program affords cadets job opportunities for the public and private sector while in school.  It also creates a curricular foundation which enables cadets to obtain an Associate’s degree and/or transfer to a four-year university before applying to the LAPD.

The POPP program started three years ago under the guidance of Chief Sandy Jo McArthur which is now under the leadership of Captain Martin Baeza.

Chief Beck will be on hand for the dedication and will also be a part of the festivities followed by lunch and live demonstrations by the cadets to showcase the highlights of the program.
