In October of 2022, the Los Angeles Police Department investigated the surreptitious recordings of conversations between members of the Los Angeles City Council and the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor during private meetings that occurred at the offices of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor in 2021.

The Los Angeles Police Department is in communication with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and is actively following up on requests for additional information made by the District Attorney’s Office.

The investigation is still ongoing and pending review by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for the filing of felony Eavesdropping charges.

For any further questions, please contact the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office.

Today’s revelation of statements by members of our council leaders hurts me to my core. This is not the Los Angeles I know or reflective of the beliefs of the women and men of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). Such remarks are unacceptable in any setting.

It is a dark day for our City of Angels.

Although the work of Council Members involved over the years are not reflective of these racist remarks, I am conflicted as to a path forward.

We must pull together and unify on our commitment to a safer City respecting the individual rights of every Angeleno.
