Granddaughter Victim of a Homicide"

The Los Angeles Police Department Robbery-Homicide Detectives are investigating a homicide that occurred on Sunday, May 28, 2000, at approximately 10:15 p.m.

Victim Lori Gonzalez, age 20, and a male companion were in a vehicle and purchased food from a restaurant located at 3050 South La Brea Avenue. After completing the purchase, the victim began to drive from the restaurant property in order to enter traffic on La Brea Avenue. While stopped in the restaurant driveway, a lone male pedestrian armed with a handgun approached the vehicle and fired several rounds into the victim’s vehicle. Victim Gonzalez received multiple gunshot wounds and succumbed to her injuries. It does not appear that she was the intended victim, the male companion was not injured.

Victim Gonzalez is the granddaughter of Los Angeles Police Chief Bernard C. Parks.

Chief Parks and his family are grieving in seclusion and request not to be contacted by the media at this time.

The motive for the incident has not been determined.
