Child Killed In Traffic Collision

December 21, 2001

Glassel Park: On Thursday, December 20, 2001, at approximately 8:40 P.M. a 36 year old woman, was walking in the street on San Fernando (annex) Road just north of Cazador Street with her 16 year-old daughter, 7 year-old son and her 5 year-old niece, Karla Bravo.
As the foursome walked in the street, the 16 year-old and Karla Bravo were walking behind the 36 year-old and her son when they were hit by a 2000 Ford Mustang that was traveling northbound on San Fernando (annex) Road, driven by a 20 year-old male of Los Angeles. Immediately after the impact the Mustang continued northbound and collided with the seven year-old boy.
A witness heard the impact, observed the victims, and immediately called 911. The driver of the Mustang stopped and rendered aid. There appears to be no negligence on the drivers part, however the investigation is ongoing.
Karla Vargas was transported to Glendale Memorial Hospital where she died as a result of her injuries. The 16 year-old sustained trauma to her head and body. The seven year-old sustained two broken legs and minor injuries to his upper torso and face. They were transported to USC Medical Center.
