Child Predator Arrested

May 22, 2001

Los Angeles – A 27-year-old man from Vancouver, British Columbia, was arrested Saturday, May 19, 2001 after meeting with an undercover Los Angeles Police Department officer from Juvenile Division’s Sexually Exploited Child Unit, and members of Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (SAFE) Team. During the meeting, Barry McSorley McFall, Vancouver, B.C., paid the officer $150.00 for delivering the child to him for his sexual pleasures.
In November 2000, a New Zealand detective, who investigates Internet predators of children, notified the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), of a person on the Internet who was interested in obtaining child pornography and finding a 12-14 year-old female for sexual activities. The NCMEC notified LAPD’s Sexually Exploited Child Unit. During the months that followed, SECU conducted undercover communications with the Internet suspect. The suspect informed the undercover officer that he wanted to come to Los Angeles and get a 12-year-old female and "rent" her for a night of sexual activity.
The SECU requested the assistance of Canadian authorities and the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (SAFE) Team, a regional federal task force comprised of various law enforcement agencies to combat similar types of crimes. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) supervised the task force.
On Saturday, McFall notified SECU/SAFE detectives that he was in Los Angeles and wanted the child delivered to him at a local hotel. Following the meeting with the suspect, he was arrested and booked at the Los Angeles Police Department for attempting to engage in lewd acts with a child. On Sunday, May 21 2001, the Vancouver Police Department served a search warrant and recovered electronic evidence from the computer used by the suspect.
On Tuesday, May 22, 2001, the Office of the Los Angeles District Attorney filed six felony counts against McFall. The charges include attempted lewd acts with a child, possessing obscene materials and employing a child for obscene purposes. The bail was set at $240,000. McFall was arraigned in Division 30 on May 22, 2001and a date for a preliminary hearing is pending.
