City Council Honors LAPD Officers

June 23, 2000

Los Angeles: On Friday, June 23, 2000, at 10:00 a.m., 30 LAPD officers will be receiving City Council commendations from Councilmembers Rudy Svorinich and Alex Padilla at the LA City Council Chamber, Room 300. Twenty-four officers from the LAPD Harbor Area and six officers from Van Nuys Area will be honored during the ceremony.

The officers will be commended for their dedication and outstanding working relationship, with the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, in securing a permanent injunction against three criminal street gangs. These officers spent hours, often on their own time, interviewing residents, drafting declarations, retrieving and copying thousands of pages of police reports; all while performing their normal duties as patrol officers. The officers even rearranged their vacations to get the work done and comply with the filing deadline.

Since the implementation of these gang injunctions, gang crimes have dropped significantly in Harbor and Van Nuys Areas.

For further information, please contact Deputy City Attorney Elizabeth Greenwood of the City Attorney’s Gang Unit at 213-847-0998.
