Community Meeting to Discuss Gang Violence

August 10, 2000

Wilmington – Due to the recent rash of shootings within Wilmington area, Harbor Area Senior Lead officers, Basic Car Coordinators, detectives and most importantly, the citizens who reside within the community, have scheduled a community meeting to address the escalating gang violence. This meeting is not a regular Wilmington Community Meeting, but an "Emergency Meeting," which we believe is necessary for the safety of every citizen.

Captain Paul Kim, Harbor Area Commanding Officer, as well as Harbor Homicide Detectives, the Special Enforcement Unit/Hate Crime Detail, Crisis Response Team Members, Area Basic Car Coordinators and Senior Lead Officers, will be available for any questions and suggestions from community members.

Guest speakers from the community will be discussing their experiences with gang violence. These speakers are your neighbors and from your community and we believe that they will be able to suggest and offer methods to cope with and resolve the violence.

The meeting is scheduled to be held at the Banning Park Recreation Center located at 1331 Eubank Avenue on Thursday, August 10, 2000 at 7:00 p.m.
