Los Angeles: On July 2, 2003, Devonshire Homicide Detectives were investigating the disappearance of a 35 year-old male White from the Chatsworth area. The detectives received a telephone call from the missing person’s family stating that the location of the body of the missing person was in a storage facility in the Van Nuys area.
Van Nuys Area patrol officers responded to a storage facility located at 15460 Erwin Street and discovered a large container with the strong likelihood of human remains inside. This container was transported to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office for further investigation.
Devonshire Homicide Detectives assumed investigative responsibility for this incident due to the fact that the missing person had been involved in a Devonshire Area assault in January of 2003. The role of the missing person had not been fully determined in that incident.
On July 3, 2003, the Los Angeles County Coroners’ Office processed the container and discovered the remains of a male adult. Identification of the remains is pending. The cause of death has yet to be determined.
The identity of the missing person is being withheld pending identification of the remains and notification of the concerned family. The investigation is being handled as an undetermined death investigation in concert with the missing person investigation.
