Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Bomb Squad Facility 2008

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Valley Bomb Squad Facility is a 8,200 square foot facility, built to serve as Valley Bureau Headquarters for the Department’s Hazardous Devices Section ("Bomb Squad"). Deputy Chief Michael Downing, (213-485-3211) is the commanding officer for the Counter Terrorism and Criminal Intelligence Bureau (CTCIB) which includes the Bomb Squad. The facility will house officers and detectives assigned to the Bomb Squad to speed response times for calls for service in the San Fernando Valley.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT TEAM
The project architect is Widom-Wein-Cohen,-O’Leary-Terasawa Architects (WWCOT), based out of Santa Monica, California. The General Contractor is Bernards Construction, based out of Los Angeles, California. The project construction cost is approximately 3.9 million dollars. The LAPD Project Manager is Grace Hsieh (213-482-7174). The Bureau of Engineering Project Manager is Kevin Schrock.

PROPOSITION Q
OVB/VTD is being built with funding from Proposition Q. On March 5, 2002, the voters in the City of Los Angeles approved a Citywide Public Safety Bond Measure, for $600 million dollars to improve, renovate, expand, and construct Public Safety (Police-Fire-Paramedic) Facilities.

PROJECT LOCATION
The Facility is located within the Los Angeles Police’ Davis Training Facility, located at 12001 Blucher Avenue in the Granada Hills community. It can be accessed by driving northbound on Blucher Avenue from Rinaldi Avenue. Rinaldi crosses under the I-405 Freeway and intersects with Sepulveda on the east side of the freeway.
