"Detectives Investigate Fatal Shooting in Front of Liquor Store"

Los Angeles–On Sunday morning, March 26, 2000, at approximately 1:00 a.m., three male Hispanic suspects drove their vehicle, an unknown year blue Toyota Corolla four door, into the parking lot of a liquor store located at 247 E Manchester Avenue. One of the suspects exited the above vehicle and confronted Alexander Zavala, a male Hispanic, 23 years of age as he exited the store. The unknown suspect armed himself with a handgun and shot Zavala multiple times in the upper torso and head. The unknown shooter then re-entered the waiting car and fled the scene. Zavala succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The motive of this incident has not been established. However, the shooting appears to be gang related.
