"Detectives Investigate Multiple Shooting; One Dead – Update"
 

Los Angeles: Pacific Detectives are investigating the murder of 19 year-old Calvin Smith, a male Black.
On Friday, September 5, 2003 at about 11:45 p.m., Smith was attending a large party at the Venice Boys and Girls Club located in the area of Lincoln Blvd and Lucille Ave. The investigation revealed that Smith and his friends were confronted by a group of gang members and a physical altercation ensued. As victim Smith and his friends attempted to flee the location, the suspect(s) drove along side of them and fired several rounds at them. Victim Smith was struck by the gunfire and later died as a result of his injury. Four victims were also struck by the gunfire, but were listed in stable condition.
The two suspects are described as male Blacks, 18 to 20 years of age. One suspect was 6’ tall with a thin build. The second suspect was about 5’4"with a heavy build.

Update:
As a result of this murder, officers worked throughout the night and utilized available department resources to identify the involved suspect(s). A police bulletin was generated to communicate this crime to neighboring divisions and agencies.
On September 17, 2003, officers received information regarding the suspect’s location. A perimeter was established in the area of Oakwood Park and the suspect, 18 year-old Tiano Moore was taken into custody without incident.
Moore faces 1 count of 187 P.C.(Murder), 4 counts of Attempt Murder, 1 count of gang association.
