UPDATE

Topanga: On October 23, 2023, around 10:45 p.m., Major Crimes Division Detectives, after an extensive investigation, ultimately identified and arrested the arson suspect, 31-year-old Kevin Miller. Miller was booked at Van Nuys Jail for 451(b) PC / Arson of an Inhabited Dwelling. His bail was set at $250,000 (Booking No. 6699188).

Miller has no prior arrests for arson, and it was determined the arson was not motivated by hate. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office for filing.

 

 

Topanga: The Los Angeles Police Department Major Crimes Division is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect responsible for an Arson in Topanga Division.

On October 21, 2023, around 7:58 p.m., Topanga Area patrol officers responded to an arson investigation in the 23000 block of Welby Way. The suspect walked onto the victim’s property and ignited an American flag on fire, affixed to the residence by a flagpole. The suspect fled from the location on foot. Major Crimes Division is investigating the arson and whether there is a hate crime connection.

The suspect is described as a male, stands between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 11 inches tall, and weighs between 160 to 170 pounds.

Major Crimes Division is collaborating with Los Angeles Fire Department Arson on this investigation.
