"Dispute Between Two Groups Ends in Tragedy"
Hollywood – On Saturday, June 17, 2000, at approximately 2:40 a.m., Hollywood Patrol Officers responded to a call of "Shots fired on Crescent Heights Boulevard north of Sunset Boulevard." Upon their arrival they discovered two people with gunshot wounds. Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded to render aid. One victim expired at the scene and the other was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in good condition.
Subsequent investigation has revealed that two groups of individuals were involved in a confrontation at the corner gas station. The confrontation escalated into a physical fight between several of the parties. One individual obtained a handgun and fired several shots, hitting the two victims.
The shooting suspect and several other members of both parties are still outstanding. Detectives are currently interviewing the remaining members of both parties. No motive has been established at this time.
The shooting suspect is described variously as a male Hispanic or possibly Armenian.
The deceased is a male Hispanic, 20 years of age. His name is being withheld pending notification to his next of kin.
