"Drive By Shooting Claims Life of One Male and Injures Another"

West Valley – On June 30, 2000, at approximately 2:25 a.m., West Valley uniformed patrol officers responded to a call of "shots being fired" at the 7300 block of Variel Ave, in the city of Canoga Park. Upon officers’ arrival, they discovered the victim’s body lying in a carport. The victim, 18 year-old Edwin Rodriguez, from Canoga Park had suffered a single gunshot wound to the upper body, he died at the scene, as a result of his injuries.

A second victim was with victim #1 at the time of the shooting. Victim #2, 26 year-old Jesus Munoz, from Canoga Park received minor injuries while attempting to flee from the scene. He was transported to a local hospital were he was treated and released.

Two to four suspects were seen in a light brown, small to mid-sized passenger vehicle. One of the suspects fired several rounds from the vehicle at the victims, with an unknown type handgun.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the motive for the shooting was gang-related.
