"Drive-by Shooting Results in Homicide"

Wilmington – On Sunday, March 12, 2000, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Harbor patrol officers responded to an "Assault with Deadly Weapon-Ambulance Shooting" radio call in the 1100 block of McDonald Avenue. When the officers arrived, they discovered victim Eduardo Espinosa lying in the driveway of the location. Espinosa sustained a gunshot wound to the head, and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Responding officers learned from witnesses that a drive-by shooting occurred at the location. The suspects were riding in a light colored mini-truck and fired several rounds at Espinosa and his friends, who were working on a vehicle parked in the driveway. Espinosa was the only person injured in the shooting incident. The suspects fled the scene in the light colored pickup.

Espinosa remained in the Intensive Care Unit of the area hospital on life support until 4:40 p.m., when he expired.

The suspects and the murder weapon are still outstanding.
