Driver and Vehicle Sought After Pedestrian Was Killed in Fatal Hit-and-Run NR21215jc

Sylmar: The Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect involved in a fatal hit-and-run collision.

On Monday, August 16, 2021, at 12:45 a.m., a gray or silver 4-door Sedan was traveling northbound on Foothill Boulevard when it collided with a pedestrian crossing mid-block across Foothill Boulevard south of Hubbard Street. The driver of the Sedan then entered a gas station driveway area while dragging the pedestrian underneath the vehicle. The hit-and-run driver then backed up, turned around and fled southbound Foothill Boulevard without stopping, identifying himself/herself, or attempting to render aid to the pedestrian that sustained fatal injuries.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and declared the pedestrian dead. The pedestrian is described as a male in his late 60’s. The name of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.

The hit-and-run vehicle was described by witnesses as a gray or silver sedan, possibly a Kia or Toyota with damage to the front end and underneath the vehicle. There were also vehicle parts left at the scene. This investigation is ongoing, no arrest has been made at this time.

Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
