Driver of Vehicle Loses Control Killing Occupant

March 7, 2005

Los Angeles: Sunday evening, March 6, 2005, the driver of 1999 Plymouth containing three passengers lost control of his vehicle when he changed lanes to pass another vehicle at Fountain Avenue and Sycamore Avenue. One passenger in the Plymouth died.
The collision occurred at 7:45 p.m. when the driver, 28-year-old Feliciano David Virrey, a Panorama City resident was driving eastbound on Fountain Avenue. The driver moved into the westbound lane to pass a slower vehicle, also traveling eastbound on Fountain Avenue, and suddenly lost control of his vehicle.
His vehicle collided with an unoccupied-parked Ford truck. The impact of the collision pushed the Ford truck forward, causing it to collide with a parked Honda Civic. The truck was pushed off the roadway and into a fence, where it came to rest along with the Plymouth.
The LAFD used the Jaws of Life to rescue 28-year-old Sergio Tizcareno, who was seated in the right front seat. Mr. Tizcareno died of his injuries at a local hospital. Henry Barajas, a 28 year-old North Hollywood resident was treated and released at a local hospital for his injuries. Chandra Shrivastava, a 25 year-old Santa Clarita resident and Feliciano Virrey were taken to a hospital.
The investigation will evaluate whether criminal charges for manslaughter should be considered.
West Traffic Detectives are conducting the investigation of the incident.
