Los Angeles: In Los Angeles County, 1401 persons died during the year 2000 as a result of impaired driving. The Peace Officers Association of Los Angeles County’s Traffic Committee is conducting the 2001 DUI Exposition at the Rose Bowl, south parking lot, on:

9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
During the event, a press conference will be held at 12:15 p.m.
California’s Secretary of Business, Transportation and Housing, Maria Contreras-Sweet, will be the keynote speaker at the press conference and will be joined by Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley, Chief Michael Brown, California Highway Patrol Southern Division, a representative of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Chief Bernard Melekian, Pasadena Police Department, Deputy Chief J.I. Davis, Los Angeles Police Department, and Tina Pasco, Executive Director of MADD-LA County.
The purpose of this event is to provide the media with a hands-on experience of drinking and driving in a controlled environment. Interested reporters will have an opportunity to participate.
Other attractions will include a presentation by "Elvis and the Lawmen" starring Lieutenant Bill Palmini of the Albany Police Department. A Traffic Safety Fair will offer information and displays of educational and enforcement projects along with specialized enforcement.
Food is being donated by Burger King, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and Western Bagel.
