"Early Morning Crash Claims High School Student"

El Sereno – On Friday, May 12, 2000 at approximately 4:50 a.m., a fatal traffic collision occurred at the 2200 block of North Soto Street. Randy Romo, a 17 year old resident of Los Angeles and student at Salesian High School in East Los Angeles, was driving a blue 1993 Chevy Astro Van southbound on Soto Street when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a traffic signal pole. Romo was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene from massive head, neck, and body trauma.

Romo was returning home from his senior prom at the Queen Mary. Romo was not wearing his seatbelt and several bottles of alcoholic beverages were found inside the vehicle.
