"Family Dispute Turns to Double Homicide"

Los Angeles – On Friday, October 20, 2000, at approximately 5:50 p.m., Hollywood Area Community Police Officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 1500 block of Gordon Street. When the officers arrived, they observed a male Hispanic lying in the driveway, the apparent victim of multiple gunshots. Officers pulled the victim to safety where he was treated by responding Los Angeles Fire Department personnel. As the officers deployed on the location, they discovered that there were possibly two additional victims in or near the residence. As the officers investigated, they observed a second victim lying motionless on the stairs of the residence. He also appeared to have sustained several gunshot wounds. Officers also rescued this second victim from the steps, and placed him a safe distance away from the residence.

As the rescue efforts moved forward, the suspect walked out of the house and turned himself over to police and was taken into custody without incident. A third victim of gunshot wounds was discovered inside the residence. Two of the victims failed to respond to treatment and were pronounced dead at the scene. The third victim was transported to a local hospital where he is expected to recover from his wounds.

One of the deceased victims has been identified as Kenneth Cordon, 19 years of age, also a resident of Hollywood and the step-son of the suspect. The second deceased victim is a 17 year-old male Hispanic, a Hollywood resident and friend of the victims. The surviving victim has been identified as an 18 year-old male Hispanic, also a resident of Hollywood and a step-son of the suspect.

The motive for the shootings remains unknown, although it appears it may have stemmed from an earlier family dispute between the suspect and one of his two step-sons.

The suspect has been identified as Glenn Yoshio Abe, 44 years of age, a resident of Hollywood. He has been booked on two counts of murder.
