Fatal Hit and Run Involving Pedestrian – NR23260rc

North Hills: The Los Angeles Police Department, Valley Traffic Detectives are investigating a fatal hit and run traffic collision that killed a pedestrian in his 30’s.

On August 27, 2023, around 1:30 a.m., Devonshire patrol officers along with Valley Bureau Homicide Detectives responded to a radio call of a man down on the roadway near the south curb at Parthenia Street and Whitaker Avenue. Further investigation revealed that the male pedestrian laying on the roadway was hit by a vehicle and Valley Traffic Detectives took over the investigation.

The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced the male pedestrian dead at scene. His identity is being withheld pending his identification and notification of next of kin by the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office. The pedestrian is described as a male, possibly Hispanic, 30 to 35 years old.

Currently, the investigation is ongoing and there is no suspect information. Anyone who was driving in the area of Parthenia Street and Whitaker Avenue around 1:30 a.m., on August 27th and/or witnessed a collision or suspicious activity, is urged to contact Valley Traffic Division Detectives with any information.

Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a traffic collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe, notify emergency service, and remain at the scene as required by law.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
