Fatal Hit and Run Leaves One Dead NR20059ll

March 3, 2020

Reseda: Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division are investigating a fatal hit and run traffic collision that resulted in one pedestrian being killed.

On March 2, 2020, around 6:40 p.m., a 2006 silver Honda Accord was traveling northbound on Tampa Ave at Hart St, when it collided with a pedestrian who was crossing from the west side of Tampa Ave to the east, in a marked crosswalk against a solid red don’t walk signal. The driver of the Honda Accord remained at scene and cooperated with the investigation. Moments after the initial collision, the pedestrian who was down on the ground was struck by a dark color sedan who was also traveling northbound on Tampa Ave passing Hart St. The dark color sedan failed to stop and fled the scene failing to render aid and identify him or herself as required by law.

Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the pedestrian to a hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. The pedestrian was a female and her name will not be released until next-of-kin are notified. Further investigation revealed that the driver of the Honda Civic was driving under the influence of alcohol and was ultimately arrested for DUI.

Pedestrians are reminded to follow the rules of the road, obey traffic signs and signals, and stay alert at all times. Drivers are reminded to not drink and drive or you will possibly risk deadly consequences. The public should be aware that individuals who are involved in a traffic collision must stop at the scene, provide their identification, and render aid. Failing to do so is a Felony and carries the possibility of significant time in prison.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
