Winnetka – On Saturday, March 31, 2001, at approximately 7:25 p.m., a 37 year-old woman and young boy were walking near the intersection of Roscoe Boulevard and Penfield Avenue when they were struck by an unidentified vehicle travelling eastbound on Roscoe Boulevard. The unknown driver of the car fled the scene and failed to stop and identify himself or provide assistance. Very little information is available regarding the suspect or the suspect’s vehicle.
The female victim, later identified as Maritza Huete of Winnetka, and the young boy, were rushed to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment. Both Huete and the young boy sustained serious physical injuries. Unfortunately, Huete was pronounced dead upon her arrival to the hospital by attending physicians. The young boy underwent emergency medical treatment and surgery and is currently listed in critical condition.
The hit-and-run driver remains at large.
