Fatal Traffic Collision in Van Nuys NR21152ll

Van Nuys: On Sunday, June 13, 2021, at 8:52 P.M., a silver sedan was traveling northbound on Hazeltine Avenue when it collided with a pedestrian crossing mid-block across Hazeltine Ave south of Gault Street. The driver of the sedan fled the scene without identifying himself/herself or attempting to render aid to the pedestrian who sustained fatal injuries.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the pedestrian in grave condition to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. The pedestrian was a male in his 30’s. His name will not be released until next of kin is notified.

The hit and run vehicle is described as a Silver sedan with severe damage to the front end of the vehicle and windshield area. This investigation is ongoing, no arrest has been made at this time.

Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.

The public is reminded to cross the streets in a safe manner, use the traffic lights, cross inside the crosswalk, and obey the rules of the road.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
