Fatal Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Hit and Run In Sylmar

March 16, 2005

Los Angeles: On Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at 11:20 p.m., a fatal vehicle vs. pedestrian traffic collision occurred on Paxton Avenue just east of San Fernando Road. The unidentified victim, a male Hispanic about 60-years-old, was crossing northbound on Paxton Avenue when he was struck by an unknown vehicle heading westbound on Paxton Avenue. The victim was transported to Holy Cross Hospital where he died as a result of blunt force trauma.
Unfortunately, there were no witnesses to the initial collision, however, during the investigation, two unidentified men told a Department of Transportation employee the whereabouts of a vehicle with severe traffic collision damage. She followed the men to a location on Haddon Street in Pacoima. The vehicle at the location had damage that was consistent with a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision; and additional information linked this vehicle to the hit and run at Paxton Avenue and San Fernando Road.
About three hours after the collision, the driver, identified as Myron Joseph Barney, a 37-year-old resident of Pacoima, was arrested for hit-and-run felony. This investigation by Valley Traffic Division is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
