Los Angeles: Southeast Homicide Detectives are investigating the shooting death of 31 year-old Jason Lewis, a resident of Los Angeles.
On March 13, 2004 at approximately 5:05 p.m. Lewis was involved in a dispute with a group of young men regarding gang affiliation, at 89th Street and Broadway. A fight broke out between Lewis and his friends and the suspect’s group. One of the suspects pulled out a handgun and shot at Lewis. Lewis and one of his friends were struck by the gunfire. Los Angeles Fire department Paramedics responded and transported Lewis and his friend, a 19 year-old male Hispanic to a nearby hospital. Lewis was pronounced dead as a result of his gunshot wounds. His friend is listed in serious condition.
The shooter was described as a male Hispanic, 16-18 years of age. The suspect fled the location in a black sport utility vehicle.
The motive appears to be gang related.
