Former NFL Football Player Lawrence Edward Smith Dies at the Age of 50

Pacific Area detectives are investigating the death of Lawrence Edward Smith, 50 years old. Smith, a former NFL football player, died in his sleep on Sunday, July 18, 1999. Smith went to bed on July 17, 1999, at approximately 11:00 p.m., and was discovered by his wife on July 18, 1999, at 2:00 p.m. Smith apparently died of natural causes.

Smith was under the care of a doctor and had several medical conditions. Cause of death is undetermined pending a postmortem examination by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

This investigation is not being considered as a homicide.
