Gang Related Homicide in North Hills

North Hills: On Tuesday, October 9, 2001, at 4:20 a.m., several citizens heard gunshots in the area of the 15200 block of Chase Street, in North Hills, and they notified 911. Devonshire Area patrol officers responded to the location and observed a victim lying on the north sidewalk in front of 15227 Chase Street. Los Angeles Fire Department emergency personnel responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The decedent incurred a single gunshot wound in the upper body.
Devonshire Area Homicide Detectives assumed the investigative responsibility for the case. Witnesses were being interviewed however there has not been any description of the possible suspect obtained as yet. The motive for the crime is unknown but possibly gang related. The victim has been identified as 22 year-old Joe Marroquin, a resident of Northridge.
