"Gang-Related Shooting at Gas Station Claims One"

Los Angeles: On Friday, December 22, 2000 at approximately 7:15 p.m., Jackie Wilson, a 21 year-old African-American male, was at a Shell Gas Station located on the 6300 block of South Figueroa Street attempting to purchase gas. As Wilson was getting out of his car, he was approached by an undetermined number of suspects, who got out of their car and began shooting several rounds at him from a handgun. Wilson sustained several gunshots to his upper torso. The suspects got back into their car and fled the scene northbound on Figueroa Street. Wilson struggled out of his car and fell to the pavement. A Los Angeles Fire Department Rescue Unit responded to the scene of the shooting and transported Wilson to a local hospital, where he subsequently succumbed to his gunshot wounds.

The motive appears to be gang-related.

The suspect(s), vehicle and weapon remain outstanding.
