Gang Related Shooting Leaves One Dead

Los Angeles: On July 12, 2003 at about 5:00 p.m., a 24 year-old male was shot twice in the back in the 500 block of South Union Drive. The victim was transported by Los Angeles City Paramedics to County USC Medical Center where he later died due to his injuries.
According to eyewitnesses, the victim was standing in front of a building at the 500 block of South Union Drive when he was approached by suspects in their vehicle. For an unknown reason, the victim turned away from the suspects’ vehicle and attempted to run into a building. As the victim ran away from the suspects’ vehicle, the suspects fired two rounds from a semi-automatic weapon at the victim, striking him in the back.
Witnesses at the scene described two vehicles fleeing the location. The first vehicle was described as a white 4dr Honda containing possibly four male Hispanics with shaved heads. The vehicle was seen driving Northbound on South Union Drive from 6th Street. The second vehicle was described as a possible grey 4 door Honda Civic.
The suspects and weapon are outstanding. The motive for the shooting is believed to be gang related. The identification of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family.
